barnsley.gif
Full Name: Barnsley Football Club City: Barnsley Country: England League: Football League Championship Founded: 1887 Stadium: Oakwell Stadium (23,009) Colors: Red, White Previous Name: Barnsley St. Peters (1887-97) Nicknames: The Reds, The Tykes Founded in 1887 by the Rev. Tiverton Preedy of St Peter's Church, who named the club Barnsley St Peter's. The club's popularity quickly outgrew the church and the name became simply Barnsley FC before the 1897-98 season, the same season they entered the Football League. A Tyke is a common nickname for anyone from the Yorkshire region of England, which the city of Barnsley is located in. The club's logo mirrors the official crest of the city. Barnsley moved to Oakwell within their first year of existence and it is the only real stadium they've ever used. The stadium is located in something of a park that was once full of oak trees, thus the Oakwell name. Trophy Room: FA Cup (1912)
