Aldershot Town return to League

Aldershot Town finally secured their return to the Football League - 16 years after Aldershot FC folded - with a draw at play-off hopefuls Exeter.

The hosts took the lead when Adam Stansfield fired home from 12 yards after being played in by Matthew Gill.

But Aldershot were soon level through Scott Donnelly, who cracked a low shot past goalkeeper Andy Marriott.

Exeter had the better of the second half but the Shots held on for the point they needed to take the title.

Really pleased for them - mind you, last time I went to the Recreation Ground to watch Shots vs Bees, it was freezing cold and I witnessed an absolutely dire 0-0 draw.

Yeah I went there to watch Swindon play a midweek away game in 1986. We won 4-2. That was our (then) record breaking season with 102 points to win the old 4th Division.
