Sponsorship deal brought to an end

ACCRINGTON Stanley have been plunged into a crisis following the news that club sponsor Fraser Eagle will be withdrawing their sponshorship for the club shirt's.

Fraser Eagle had initially agreed to a two-year shirt sponsorship deal, which would see the Fraser Eagle crest displayed accross the front of both the home and away shirts.

But they have withdrawn their deal claiming that the company need to review their allocation of budget across other initiatives.

Reds chairman Eric Whalley said: 'We have enjoyed a great relation-ship with Fraser Eagle over the last three years, but we are very disappointed that we have only just found out that they do not wish to continue as our main sponsor for the forthcoming season.

But because of the deal, Accrington now have only two to three weeks to find a new club sponsor before the new shirts are printed for the 2008/09 season. If not it would mean a plain sponsorless shirt with the club losing thousands of pounds.

Whalley continued: 'It now leaves us with only a matter of weeks to find someone else.

'It has come as a massive shock and leaves a significant hole in our budget for next season.

'The search for a new shirt sponsor starts now and we just have to hope that we can find a company to come in and help to make up the shortfall, whether that is one of the larger local businesses or even a national organisation."

A Fraser Eagle spokesman said: 'All sponsorship arrangements have a shelf life and the agreement for the front of shirt sponsorship was a two-year commitment, which will come to an end before the new season.

'Over the duration of the relationship, Fraser Eagle has provided over £300,000 to the club and we now need to review our allocation of budget across other initiatives.'

awful news for stanley, suppoedly a club with no money but they seem to be able to buy players for £85,000 this season doesnt make any sense and seems very dodgey. but loosing your sponser is a big blow for the club
just as Birthdays stopped sponsering us a few years ago we struggled to find a sponser and then the council stepped in to help us out and they have been our sponsers ever since.

i hope they can find themselves someone as i like accy altho i dont think they should be in the league with a ground like that
