Chris Maguire not interested in Coventry City

CHRIS Maguire today said he sees his long-term Aberdeen future at Pittodrie according to Evening Express - Home Page

The Dons striker has been offered a new deal following reports linking him with a £300,000 move to Coventry City.

The 19-year-old wants to continue his career at Aberdeen and is bidding to nail a regular place in Jimmy Calderwood's Dons team in the new campaign.

"I only know what I read about Coventry City being interested" said Maguire.

"But I haven't heard anything officially and I'm not even interested in leaving Aberdeen.

"I'm pleased with the progress I've been making and want to push on to make more first team starts.

"I've still got a year left on my contract and would be happy to extend that.

"I did well towards the end of last season and want to play more games and score more goals for Aberdeen."

Maguire scored four goals last term including the winner against Falkirk which sealed Aberdeen's place in the top six.

Dons boss Calderwood is convinced the teen star has what it takes to establish himself as a major force in the SPL.

But Calderwood wants the rising star to bulk up for the new campaign to make sure he does not get muscled out of the team.

He added: "Chris has a great touch and brilliant vision and is probably annoyed he doesn't get as many games as he would like.

"I've told him he has to become stronger by working in the gym. The one big thing he has going for him is that he can play.

"The other things are easy to do if you have something between your ears. We played Hibs at Easter Road last season and Chris was fabulous.

"I expect to see more of him next term. Like the rest of the players he has a running schedule to follow during the close season.

"If he does that and comes back ready to push on next season he could have a good season."

Maguire will battle it out with Lee Miller, Darren Mackie and Jamie Smith for a place in the Dons attack next season.
