Wolves loan list

Wolves midfielder Stephen Gleeson heads a clutch of young fringe players set to be loaned out to gain experience.

But Mark Little and Daniel Jones will be allowed to stay to fight for a first team place.

Stockport are favourites to take Gleeson – 20 next month – after he helped them to Wembley glory in the League Two play-off final in May.

Bury want Lewis Gobern and Elliott Bennett, but the former isn’t fit yet after knee surgery.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “Lewis is injured so he isn’t going to be fit for two or three weeks now because he’s had an operation.

“They are queueing up to take Gobern if he’s fit. He and Ellliott Bennett will go out on loan. Bury want Elliott after they had him last year and their manager Alan Knill is my mate.

“My understanding is that if a League One club came in for him, we’ll consider where it’s best to place him.

“Mark Davies and Lee Collins will come into that category. Loads of people could go on loan but they’re all here for the time being.

“Daniel Jones and Mark Little have both been out on loan but they will get their chance to play here because they’ve been playing regular football, although Kevin Foley has kind of nailed down the right-back position.

“Stephen Gleeson’s another but they have to play football. If they’re not getting in our team now, then they’ve got to play League football.

“Stockport would have Gleeson back tomorrow, Cheltenham are quite keen on a couple of the players, so there are plenty of takers.

“In terms of their development, they’re better off playing in someone’s first team.”

Gleeson made his debut for the full Republic of Ireland team 14 months ago but form and a succession of injuries led to him going to County.

He said: “The gaffer has said I can go out for six months and then come back and see how it goes.”
