Six arrested after Maltby teenager killed in car crash

SIX teenagers have been arrested after a Maltby teenager was killed in a car crash in the early hours of this morning.
Flowers and football shirts already adourn the site on Ashton Lane, near Braithwell, where a 16-year-old, who has not yet been named, was killed at about 2am today.
South Yorkshire Police have said the boy suffered fatal head injuries when the orange Citroen C3 car went 'out of control' and flipped onto its side.
Four men and two women, aged between 14 and 18, who were all travelling in the same car have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Maltby firefighters were first on the scene and tried to save the 16-year-old, who is thought to have been thrown from the vehicle, but the boy was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A 54-year-old Maltby woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "Lots of people are talking about the crash. It's just awful news that someone so young has lost their life."
Staff at a Maltby flower shop said small groups of tearful younsters had been into the store to buy flowers to place at the roadside.
It is not yet known who was at the wheel of the car, which was travelling towards Braithwell, but the teenagers involved are being questioned by police.
Two teenagers, two males and one female, are receiving treatment for minor injuries at Rotherham District Hospital.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash and the car is not thought to have been stolen.
Ashton Lane was closed off to traffic for several hours but has now been cleared and reopened.
